The stake was 35 dogs.
Brian and Steve Parker went to the fourth series with the Chesapeakes.
The water mark was a double, with a long retired memory bird. Bobby
chose to pick up the long bird first.....showing confidence, but splitting
the difference between the two birds...He came back and then pinned the
short bird...but the job wasn't as clean as the yellow lab from Montana,
owned by Ray St. John, who pinned the long retired memory bird, and did so
in the usual order. But what another exciting trial for Bobby, and
what a thrill to do so well in a field of a lot of wonderful labs.

Another Rudy pup stepping up to the plate!
Here is his story...
According to his
owner, Troy Cambell , 'Jake' was a natural retriever from the day he
brought him home. Realizing he had a talented young dog, he sent
'Jake' to the able hands of Mark and Dave Mosher for training.
Pictured here in Texas on the Lazy M Ranch, Mike Coutu met, played with
and fell in love with 'Jake'. Mike was so impressed with this
brown dogs' talent, he bred him to our Champion/Senior Hunter bitch 'Booda',
and signed on him as co-owner. We plan to take this lovely dog as
far as he will go-Open, Amateur and yes a show career this Fall.
Hopefully the rest is history!! And why not?? After all his
father is the newly crowned Dual Champion Rudy of Nordais and his mom is
from the working/show kennel of Beartown. Bred by Alain Gilbert of
Canada, 'Jake's' registered name is SAKO.

Westwind's Rudy of Nordais
At 8
years old, Rudy wins an Open handled by Mitch Patterson. A brand new
FC! Which makes Rudy join DC
AFC Gambler's Dilwyn-Stacked Deck MH as the only two living Dual & AFC retrievers.
Mitch Patterson has finished three Dual Champions to date. (Three of
the last five)
Fitting that Rudy is riding on a truck with plates that read DUALCH!
Congratulations go out to Wendy Shepard Chisholm, Mitch & Linda
Patterson, and Mario Beauregard!

What a very unique test in the
3rd and the 4th series. The water blind was up a channel, with logs to
negotiate. The fourth series was a water triple, not farther than 150
yards for the shore line memory bird, and the flier and the left hand bird
were in line. What a tense, but fun series. The in-line birds, presented
Bobby with some thoughtful hunting, and so we were happy for our JAM today

After winning the Butte qualifying stake with his trainer, Vernon
Presswood, Bobby ran the Great Salt Lake Trial with his owner Brian Johnson, and the two of them ran a good trial.
Although Brian because of his inexperience, sent Bobby back to the flier station, Bobby, left the line looking a little worried, but straightened up his line and went out to the long retired middle gun and pick up the bird, saying I'm sure "sorry Dad, but this is where I needed to go" It was a thrill....and the judge said "I'm glad the dog has brains" this sport can be tough....Bobby and I went on to get through the land blind and the water blind, with fun....and then again on the water marks...Bobby locked in on the long retired middle gun, saying "I want the middle one dad" and I made a little effort to change his mind, but decided to go ahead and let him go....but I sent him right up the middle between the two....he took out the middle bird, and when he left for the last bird, he left on the same line until he hit
the water, and then moved intelligently; over to the right had bird, and stepped on it.....what a delight....competitors have asked when we were going to take Bobby out fo the
qual...but I say.....I want more experiences like that one with Bobby in the qual for awhile.....sorry for being selfish...but he loves it....and I'm getting the chance to get better as a handler........

Stormy
just missed a great Open finish. She was in superb shape going into
the 4th series of an 88-dog Open, the door was wide open, as only 3 dogs had
been able to do this last test without handling, and it looked like a test
she could smack--and then when she came to the line at 7:30 p.m., after
sitting in the crate all day, she broke on the flier. Damn! Well,
maybe next week at the Colorado Women's trial.
